Born in Southern California, I moved to Colorado in December 2005. It was a new start for me. I'd met the man who was to become my husband in early 2004. He asked if I'd move to Colorado with him... I love the outdoors and especially the mountains... and I loved him... so it was a no-brainer! He taught me to play golf and we spent 14 wonderful years together traveling, playing golf and having fun. Oh yeah... there was some work in there, too. But it was not to last. He passed away unexpectedly in February 2018. I was alone... and wondering who I was without the man I loved.
I moved forward in my life, even though some days it sure didn't feel like it. One big step was to join a mindful women's adventure group... hiking, paddle boarding and river rafting, to name a few of the adventures I've gotten to share with like-minded women.
But the most unexpected change came one day in the fall of 2018 when I woke up and decided I wanted to paint. Believing all of my life that I wasn't artistic, deciding to paint was a big leap for me. I wasn't very good when I started... but one day a few months after I started painting, I sat down and painted for a couple of hours... and when I got up, I looked at what I had created. It was beautiful. A semi abstract floral. All from my head... I'd had no idea what I was going to paint when I sat down. I just had a vision of green squares?? So I started by painting a green square and just let go and let the palette knife and the paint do the rest. Now, nearly 3 years after I started, I understand that I have been given an amazing gift for color and texture and exploration. I love creating something out of nothing. I love expressing my emotions on the canvas. And if I don't like what I created... I can start all over again and again. In fact some of my best paintings are do-overs. I love the parallel between painting and life. When I fall down, I pick myself up (sometimes I need help!) and start all over again... one baby step at a time.
Maybe my story will inspire you to try something you never thought you could do...
